Ballad of Never After Review

Ballad of Never After arcWhen I say I loved this book I don’t mean just any type of love. I mean a deep, all consuming love where I can think of nothing except this book!

I’m only going to give a very small synopsis. I went into this book not reading anything about what was going to happen. IN the synopsis the one phrase that really stands out is, “Not every love is meant to be.” That really sets up the vibe for what’s to come. Jacks has betrayed Evangeline, and she has discovered her magic. Evangeline is out to restore her own chance at a happily ever after.

While I did like Evangeline in the first book I didn’t love love her. However, that all changed in this book. She is so much stronger, her personality so more fierce and compelling. She’s full of fire, and warmth! She’s someone I can relate to and root for!

Jacks is hot. I don’t even know how else to put that! I loved in in Caraval, I loved him in Once Upon a Broken Heart. I became obsessed with him in Ballad!

Every character is become so much more alive, and full of depth, and interesting traits. This book really brought out the magic, and lore of this world. There wasn’t a moment where I couldn’t vividly picture everything. I was sucked in 100%.

ARC of Ballad of Never After

This book is full of twists that you will not see coming. It will have you laughing, screaming, and holding your breath because things get steamy! It’s still YA appropriate, but it has some good steam.

The writing is superb. It’s lyrical, magic, fast paced, and simply perfection. I believe Stephanie Garber is securely a Fate!

I saw some reviews that were not fond of the first book. I would say please, just give this one a chance because it is well worth it. It grows beyond the typical ya book to something the is unique, whimsical, and heart destroying in the best possible way.

💚 Twisted Lies 💚 Excuse me while I escape t 💚 Twisted Lies 💚

Excuse me while I escape to the world of Ana Huang! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book. I may have read it at the wrong time, because now, I’m completely obsessed with her books! Twisted Lies so far is my favorite!

⁉️QOTD: Who is an author you have recently become a fan of, or what book took you by surprise this year?
🇫🇷 𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠? 🇫🇷

𝐋𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 is one of my all time favorite books and musicals. I’ve seen it on the stage 3 times and could probably recite it from memory 😂 I’m not sure any other book really captures the rise from despair, redemption, struggles, and the sheer beauty and of grace. I can’t watch or read this book without sobbing. There’s an element that touches the very soul of humanity

I’ve collected so many editions of this book but the @canterburyclassics edition is definitely the most beautiful! Am I am so thankful to them for this gifted copy!

I’m not the biggest fan of the movie version but I don’t hate it, either. I do love the 10th anniversary concert! That version is such a delight and my favorite recorded version

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:

🎀 1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness. But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger. Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him... Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about-and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years

🎀 Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth—and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light. Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya’s unease —and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted... but just a little

🎀 Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle’s office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as “the first lost bride.” It’s becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking

 🎀🎀🎀

I really loved The Inheritance and I can’t wait to put on these cozy socks and read The Mirror by @norarobertsauthor! Thank you to @stmartinspress for this gifted book and socks!

💚 She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting. He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya-the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that-ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime-making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity

💚 Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble.

💚 Easier said than done. When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of llyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers-the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is— completely Ordinary

💜 Finding a dead body is not normal. But Ava is not a normal teenager. In this chillingly beautiful mystery, only the obsessive spirit of youth can save a desperate town from the savagery within

🖤 Ava Bonney is a compassionate and studious fourteen-year-old girl with a dark secret: she has an obsessive interest in the macabre. She is fascinated by the rate at which dead animals decompose. The highway she lives by regularly offers up gifts of roadkill, and in the dead of night Ava loves nothing more than to pull her latest discovery into her roadside den and record her findings

💜 One night, she stumbles across the body of her classmate and, fearing that her secret ritual could be revealed, she makes an anonymous call to the police. But when Detective Seth Delahaye is given the case, Ava won’t step back-not while teenagers continue to go missing

🖤 Racing alongside the police or against them, Ava is determined to figure out who is hunting her classmates before she becomes the next prey. How hard can it be to track a killer?

🧜‍♀️ Fish are mysteriously disappearing, starving the people in Angie Song’s Alaskan hometown. Angie, a snarky, guarded aspiring marine biologist and dock worker, enthusiastically joins the hunt to find out where the fish are gathering. When her family and the villagers discover that merfolk are responsible, they vow to destroy every last one.

🧜‍♀️ In the midst of the conflict, Angie faces off with a merman and fails to pull the trigger. Inquisitive Mer-Prince Kaden is just as snarky as Angie, but he’s willing to talk and stop the brutal massacring of his people. The two form a cautious alliance to broker peace between the humans and mer before any more of them die. Angie’s family becomes suspicious of her time near the water and threatens her future career. If the Mer-King and Queen learn of Kaden fleeing to the surface from an engagement he doesn’t want and falling for a landwalker, he’ll be exiled.

🧜‍♀️ As tensions clash in this modern-day Romeo and Juliet meets The Little Mermaid, no one is safe in the desperate fight to control the sea’s resources. Despite the risks, Angie and Kaden’s forbidden relationship ignites. And as she learns about the mer’s mysterious world and the reason why the fish are gone, Angie starts to question who the true monster is, and where her loyalties lie. Taking the wrong side means choosing between family and her job, or the man she’s fallen for and the merfolk she’s come to respect-or losing it all

☕️ When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy.

☕️ Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon-once a parable to her-are starting to come true, how much future is actually left? Across the world, in a mall in Singapore, Lai Zhen, an internet-famous survivalist, flees from an assassin. She’s cornered, desperate and-worst of all-might die without ever knowing what’s going on. Suddenly, a remarkable piece of software appears on her phone telling her exactly how to escape. Who made it?

☕️ What is it really for? And if those behind it can save her from danger, what do they want from her, and what else do they know about the future? Martha and Zhen’s worlds are about to collide. An explosive chain of events is set in motion. While a few billionaires assured of their own safety lead the world to destruction, Martha’s relentless drive and Zhen’s insatiable curiosity could lead to something beautiful or the cataclysmic end of civilization.
